Before we married, we knew we wanted to grow our family through foster care and adoption. Our oldest daughter's adoption was emotionally easy. We knew it was rare. So when we later received a call about David, a three-day-old baby who needed foster placement, we expected a different experience. Driving home that night, I prepared myself for what I would say and thought about what I would do if the unthinkable happened. God made it very clear that my years of living in a prison built with my own hands were about to come to an end, but I was terrified at what might lie outside those walls.
