A 30-week course that provides an introduction to hermeneutics, genre-based biblical interpretation, biblical theology, and systematic theology. While the format will vary from week to week, class meetings will normally include a lecture, a guided, practical experience interpreting a biblical text, and table discussions. The examination of individual Bible passages will be coordinated with discussions of relevant topics in systematic theology, ethics, and apologetics.

At the completion of this course you should be able to:

  • Analyze a number of biblical texts according to their particular literary genres and historical contexts and then assess practical and ethical implications for living as a Christian in the modern world.
  • Describe the different parts of the Bible and explain how they fit into the overall schema of salvation history.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of key topics in systematic/Christian theology and provide a non-technical explanation to some common skeptical questions about the Bible and Christianity.
