The events of Acts 10 sound strange and mysterious to modern minds: we live in a universe thinned by naturalism. The vision to the Roman centurion Cornelius is given one time, through an angel; Cornelius does what he is told. Peter’s vision comes three times; it is from the Lord. At first, as was typical for him, Peter refuses to do what he is told. The Holy Spirit then instructs him what to do about the vision; its far-reaching meaning begins to unfold through his subsequent obedience.
