Mission & Vision

Christians have long recognized that the Bible speaks about salvation in four dimensions. These four aspects of redemption have been known to theologians as justification, sanctification, inclusion, and vocation. Here’s how we’re articulating them today:
 

Gospel Clarity
We believe and teach that the death and resurrection of Jesus is the central event in history and that he provides the only way to eternal life with God.

Character Formation
Through the transforming power of the Holy Spirit, we are becoming more like Jesus in what we think, say, and do, and in what we will no longer think, say, and do.
 

Deep Community
We welcome others and practice hospitality, vulnerability, and accountability as a reflection of God's Triune nature.

Missional Purpose
We do whatever it takes to help people discover the unique assignments and opportunities for which they have been created.

Eternal Purpose

Elmbrook’s congregational DNA has long been marked by a passion for innovation, a heart for the world, and a desire to engage the real-life issues that people are facing still matter. God has gifted our church with abilities and tools to reach out in the coming years in these four areas that neatly form the acronym FLAG:

F - Future Focused
We will live hopefully and courageously, convinced that in Jesus Christ, God is making the world, our church, and individual people new creations.

L - Love Directed
We will examine our motives and systems to ensure that we are here for people, and not driven by
what we can get from them.

A - Apologetically Prepared
We will equip the members of our congregation to process the big questions of life and to narrate
their own stories of God's work in their lives.

​

G - Globally Integrated
We will see our ministry as part of God's worldwide redemptive movement, both resourcing the international church and learning from our brothers and sisters in other nations.

Our Targets

It’s not just about what we’re doing here. It’s also about how we do it. Church culture matters, and Elmbrook is committed to honoring Jesus in our gatherings, our conversations – even in how we think about our resources. Our desire is to increasingly emulate the New Testament models in these four areas:

Worship
Our encounters with the Living God are marked with humility, authenticity, and joy rather than performance and production.

Relationship
Our interactions are grounded in trust and interdependence, reflecting the beautiful "one another" prompts of the New Testament.

Stewardship
Our relationship to our money, time, and abilities demonstrates that they are forever God's and are
intended for his purposes rather than personal gain.

​

Discipleship
Our chief task from Jesus is to reorder our lives to reflect his priorities, to rest in his love, and to invite others to follow him as well.
