About the Event

BrookfieldLake CountryHeld at Lake CountryMission

An emphasis on local and global mission is one important attribute that makes Elmbrook Church unique. Each year, the entire Elmbrook family is invited to a morning of training that will inform and equip both those currently volunteering in a mission-related role and those who want to grow in the area of mission. On Saturday, September 20, meet at 8:45am in the Commons at the Lake Country campus for coffee and pastries, then begin the morning with a biblical basis for mission and exploring the idea of 'welcoming the stranger,' and how we respond to those different than us in our surrounding workplaces, schools, and communities. This main session will be held from 9 to 10am, and breakout sessions will follow from 10:15am to noon. Breakout topics will include immigration updates, trauma care training, and disciple-making movements. All are welcome!

Breakout Sessions:

Disciple Making Movements

Many of us have heard about the exciting movements that are happening all around the world, particularly in some of the most difficult places for the gospel.  Some call them Church Planting Movements and others Disciple Making Movements, but either way, God is on the move.  This workshop will drill down on some of the common dynamics of movements as well as look at what a Discovery Bible Study (DBS) is and how those might work in the US.

Immigration & Refugees: Feeling Confused?

You’re not the only one! Let’s explore what Scripture says. Immigration is complicated, and it’s easy to feel uncertain about where to stand or what to do. But God’s Word offers clarity, hope, and a call to action. In this training, we’ll explore how Scripture speaks to immigration and refugees, how the church can respond with biblical faithfulness, and move from confusion to compassion.

Trauma and its Significance in Ministry/Serving

Those we work with may have underlying struggles that we may not know or understand. Many of these struggles can come from traumas endured at some point in their lives. In this training, we will discuss what trauma and trauma-informed care are, the importance of understanding trauma while serving, and how to engage as Christians.
